Walking: The Bridgewater Canal - Section 2 - Norton to Lymm

As I lost a lot of photographs, particularly from the end of the walk in July, and even though I've walked from Norton to Moore along the canal a few times since, I planned to walk from the Top Locks to Moore and then do the blog post before this one... but logistics got in the way. I couldn't cadge a lift to the top locks, so I would have either had to walk from home to the Old Town, most probably along the canal, and then walk back, or, I would have had to walk to the Shopping City and take a bus (a day ticket is £4!) to the old town, and then walk back. I just couldn't face a walk to take a bus to do a walk, when I live less than a third of a mile away from the canal, and I simply didn't want to walk along the canal, and then back the same stretch.

So, I came up with a plan. I'd walk along the canal from our house to the Walton Arms (covering the area I'd lost the photographs for and beyond) and then Beloved should have finished the overtime he was doing, and could come and pick me up, we could both have a drink and a nice lazy afternoon.

As you can probably tell, by the title, and the screenshot from Runkeeper below, things didn't quite go to plan.

Walking: The Bridgewater Canal - Section 1 - Top Locks to Preston Brook

It's been a while since I blogged, and I walked this section of the canal - I actually walked it at the end of July, and, have accidentally deleted most of the photographs! Argh! I will re-walk this section at some point.

Free Comic Book Day and other ways to spend a weekend.

The first Saturday in May each year is Free Comic Book Day. On this day, comic producers send special taster comics to comic book shops to give away for free... the idea is to get new people into reading comics and graphic novels. What usually happens is long queues of comic book fans queue up to pick up the taster for their favourite series, and try out some new series'.

Apart from living with two comic book fans, the Peter Grant books I've been reading, has two graphic novels which fit between books 4 and 5, and I've just started reading book 4, so, as we do every year, we went into Liverpool to visit the two big comic retailers there (Worlds Apart and Forbidden Planet) where we picked up some free comic books, and bought some others.

Film reviews and brunch.

Let's start with something fun, Brunch!

On Saturday, we happened to be out and about, far too close to lunchtime for our liking, and we found a lovely cafe, the Millhouse Cafe, in Kingsley. Beloved encountered a mixed grill he was unable to finish, I devoured the eggs royale, followed by a slice of homemade lemon sponge, and there was a play area, which made LittleBit almost as happy as the mint-choc-chip ice cream she had after her chicken nuggets, chips and beans!

Mallorca

No post last week because we were on holiday!

We chose to go on holiday at Easter this year because we all burn easily, and it'll be too hot for us by the main summer school holidays. We went for one week, all inclusive, and stayed in Palmanova, the first tourist resort on the island.

Five under five pounds - March 2017

For this post, I'm joining in with Rainbeaubelle's regular feature of five things, each costing less than £5, that I have purchased. This is something I'm hoping to join in with each month.

#LittleLoves - 1

I have discovered this fabulous idea on Coffee Work Sleep Repeat, where people use the #LittleLoves tag to share their Little Loves from the past week (or in my case, fortnight). So, I shall be trying to join up and do the same, although I may add a few extra categories occasionally - but not this time:

Refresh

I have had a bit of a play with the settings, and although I hope that the changes, so far, will be subtle, I am hoping to change the posts and content to be somewhat less erratic.

Week 8: C25K

This week I have restarted the Couch to 5km (C25K) running program. This isn't my first attempt, but I haven't actually managed to complete it yet. I have got around 6 weeks through it before though.

Week 7:

Half Term Homework - Solids, Liquids and Gases:

LittleBit's Learning Log for half term was to complete 2 pages of her learning log on this term's topic. We decided that as we lack the kitchen of Heston Blumenthal, we probably weren't going to get all three on a plate without having ice, water and steam, which is less exciting than you might imagine. However, one of my colleagues mentioned something he'd seen on the BBC website... Bottle Rockets. Now that sounded like exactly the thing we needed. Take one solid and one liquid, mix them up to create a gas and some other liquid, and an explosive reaction that can launch a bottle into, well, about 10 feet in the air. Still, it was science, and fun.

Week 6, 100th Blog Post and a family walk

This week, Beloved and I walked to the pub, where we met LittleBit (who had been with grandparents) and had some lunch before we walked home again. It's around a five mile round trip, and it was cold, bitterly cold, and mainly uphill on the way there.

2017 - Weeks 4 & 5 - Kung Hey Fat Choi

Beloved and I made it to the cinema to see T2 Trainspotting, which I really enjoyed. I'm glad I didn't see any trailers beforehand, and I'm glad I re-watched Trainspotting beforehand.
From Wikipedia
We laughed a lot, as did other people in the cinema, but not everyone. Still not sure if they didn't get it, or our sense of humour is warped. Anyway, 5/5 in part for nostalgia, and in part for comedy value.

A to Z of things to achieve in 217

Over at The Williams' World, Tracey has come up with an A to Z of things to achieve in 2017. It's a great idea, and much more fun than just listing resolutions...

It was harder to make an A to Z list than I expected, but here it is;

2017 - Week One

This week I have photographedThe moon and Venus. If I'm honest, I wasn't sure what the incredibly bright light/star was near to the moon, it was so clear from before the sun set, when the sky was a glorious colour, alas, I was driving so had to wait until we got home and it was dark, but this was the view from outside our house. Prof. Brian Cox confirmed on twitter that lots of people had asked what it was and that it was venus. I used a 55-250mm lens to capture this. We don't have a working telescope at the moment, and I don't have an adaptor for my camera either way, so this is the best I can do at present.

2016 Catch Up Post

I failed to post again after the Battle of Hastings, although I have a half written post about Half Term... So, what have I been up to?

Day Trips and Travel:

Shortly after LittleBit's birthday celebrations, during the half-term holiday, we arranged a "day trip" to Blackpool... we'd bought a 'Big Ticket' each, which allows access to each of the seven major attractions which are part of the Blackpool Tower, and which are valid for 90 days, meaning anything we couldn't get to this trip, we would visit again another time.
